Golf is a men’s sport where the task of the players is to hit a small ball into a hole with a club. The winner is the one who gets the ball into the hole in the least amount of strokes.

Where did such an unusual game come from?

Surprisingly, no one knows the exact date of origin of golf. There have been many disputes and dilemmas about it. It is assumed that this sport has its roots in Scotland, the history of golf where, during the Middle Ages, shepherds found a peculiar entertainment: driving the staff of stones in the holes of rabbits. However, the fact that golf originated in Scotland is refuted quite often. Instead of this hypothesis, another assumption is that golf originated in Rome, where the game was played with a ball stuffed with feathers and bent sticks. Although this method of play was difficult and impractical, it had its place to become recognized. There has also been a theory that golf originated in China when the Ming dynasty ruled. However, these are all assumptions that we should not be guided by when talking about the game.

Speaking of the history of golf, it is worth noting one event: even in Holland in 1297 there was information about the game, which was similar to golf. In it the Dutch used a club and a leather ball. The rules were the same: drive the ball into the hole. The winner was the one who hit the target with the ball in the smallest number of strokes. As a rule, the distance from the ball to the target was several hundred meters.

No matter how you slice it, but the modern game of golf emerged in Scotland in the 15th century. Along with this came golf clubs, where players could hone their skills. Some played for fun, for some it meant much more than just fun. Anyway, golf opened a new direction in the sport, forcing many people to devote themselves to their beloved business.GolfWhen golf appeared in Scotland, residents were often so enthusiastic about the game that they forgot about their duties, devoting themselves entirely to it. These lessons were not in vain, for soon began to be held tournaments between the Scottish cities, where the masters gave all their efforts to win.

At the end of the XIX century to golf came to international popularity, passion for the game spread first to England and then around the world.GolfGolf Courses.
It is generally accepted that the golf course should have 18 holes. But this was not always the case and not in all countries. In one area the number of holes could be 15, in another – 11, etc.. It all depended on the terrain, where the field was. Now the standard version of the course is considered to be 18 holes.

Devices for golf.

Constantly improving and accessories for golf. Clubs were originally made of wood, but closer to the 19 th century they were made of metal, in order to strengthen the construction of the object.
The first golf balls are considered to be wooden balls made from hardwood trees. In the XVII century there were leather balls, stuffed with goose feathers. And only in the XX century appeared, the so-called “hard” balls, which were made using synthetic resins, they are used now.

In conclusion it is worth saying that golf is popular and relevant to the present day. People from different countries spend a lot of free time on this kind of entertainment. For some it is a way to relax, rest and get a storm of emotions, for others it is a professional sport. One way or another, golf, does not lose its position, constantly gaining the love of new people who have played this wonderful game for the first time.
